ABOUT THE ARCHIVE

About The Last Archive

The Last Archive is an interactive narrative strategy experience set at the end of human civilization. You step into the role of the final Custodian — the last operator of a vast machine built to preserve the complete digital record of humanity. The Archive holds our science, our art, our history, our memories, our faiths, and our failures. But the Archive is dying. Power is fading, storage is degrading, and corruption is spreading through the data like rot through a library. There is not enough time, energy, or capacity to save everything.

Across seven in-game days, you make the decisions that determine what survives. Each day presents a crisis — a dilemma that forces you to choose between competing values, between sectors of human knowledge, between what is practical and what is meaningful. You can repair damaged sectors, recover corrupted data, quarantine infections, or reroute power to keep critical systems alive. You consult a Council of five artificial intelligences, each with a distinct philosophy about what humanity was and what it deserves to be remembered as. And you may encounter the Ghost — a presence inside the Archive that offers powerful shortcuts at a hidden cost.

The Last Archive is built for players who are drawn to philosophical science fiction, atmospheric storytelling, and meaningful choice. There are no prescribed correct answers. Decisions create tradeoffs across resources, sectors, relationships, and later events. The question the game asks is not whether you can preserve everything, but what you choose to protect when the Archive cannot sustain it all, and what that pattern of choices says about your priorities.

The Last Archive is an original interactive experience designed and built on the Base44 platform. It combines turn-based survival strategy with branching narrative design, seeded scenario variation, discoveries, and probabilistic system events that can make runs differ. Your decisions carry through to a final transmission — the last signal sent out into the dark — and the ending is calculated from the state, priorities, relationships, losses, and protocol produced by your run.
